The update crash I don't completely remember, renaming the file seemed to work. The error dialog pops up for me right before servers should load apparently, as one time I didn't get it and the servers showed up by themselves but normally I have to 'refresh' after I hide the error message.

The master servers parser is rewritten and works just fine with any given masterservers.vdf written by Steam.
As for the selfupdater crash and the one while loading servers it seems that your machine doesn't work fast enough for KetchUpdater ;) The selfupdater should crash just because KetchUpdater hasn't exited yet, thus the .exe is still locked by Windows. No problem to account for that. The other crash might be caused by executing a master server query before parsing the servers is complete. Although it first parses the servers, then starts a query and there is no multithreading involved at that stage. Anyway, I'll see what I can do.

All apps updating apps and updating apps that update other apps have been updated. Indeed, it's getting confusing here. So here's what I changed.

KetchUpUpdater:
- Fixed crashing when KetchUpdater is still running
That is: it grabs all running KetchUpdaters and asks them politely to exit. If they do not exit in the next five seconds they are forced to exit ;)

KetchUpdater:
- Rewrote the masterservers.vdf parser to fix crashes with "malformed" files
- Fixed KetchUpdater crashing when it was closed while a server query was still running
- Catch all unhandled exceptions and write a crash report

The last item on the list means that you will most likely no longer see a message telling you that something went wrong and KetchUpdater has to be closed. Instead the app will tell you an unhandled exception occurred and that the file crashdump.txt was written to KetchUpdater's startup directory. If that happens, just post the contents of that file here or send a private message to me.

Last but not least: the new versions should be up soon.

Heh no problem. For last few months the speed of the updates was very high compared to the usual speed in the scene, so good job for that one :)

I was kinda getting used to it also :D

But hey, I don't know what you guys are going to fix next, but whether recyle works in offline-mode, please make it work online too, that is a huge thing that affects the game playability. And it suffered when there was no recyle. I don't want to pressure you to do anything else for the weapons, just that. Then it's all the way funnier to test the beta too. Especially now that it doesn't crash as it did before, and is fluent as hell compared to the first builds of the open beta.

Took me ages to figure out that 'recyle' probably means recoil and not recycle...

Well, at least for my part of it... I just needed to take a little break. I kinda burned myself out. Then Mass Effect 2 came out, and a little break turned into a 2 week break. I'll be more careful next time. :P

I've got a pretty big weapon change that I'm waiting to commit until it can get a little bit more testing (even though it's a beta, it's nice to vet changes before unleashing them on everybody).

Just a reminder, you guys can keep an eye on http://twitter.com/ahlsdev and you'll know when we make changes even before they get pushed to the updater build.

Just a note since there should be new libs on ketchup now: The only really noticeable change here will be holster animations. I'm pretty sure I got all the kinks worked out, but if you end up in a case where no weapon model is drawing, or a weapon model is drawn for a weapon that won't do anything, try to remember what you were doing when it happened ( reloading, switching, dropping ) and let me know.

as I tried some old school deathmatch with spawning with pistols only going I noticed some things.

Unknown command "sv_hl2mp_item_respawn_time"
Unknown command "sv_hl2mp_weapon_respawn_time"

are there any equivalents in the open beta?

the default respawn time doubles each time the weapon is picked up from the spawnspot, so its like 20/40/80/160/360 seconds, which kind of makes a dm game in an ammo starving pistol whipping fest.

while testing it I encountered another glitch.
I picked up an M4 while I was mashing the drop weapon key, so I dropped the gun I was holding and the m4 as I picked it up.
but after that I was still holding an m4 model and could drop M4s indefinately although I couldnt shoot.

oh yeh, the drop on throwing the last knife sucks.
also had the server crash twice with
37/ - weapon_basemeleethrown: UTIL_SetModel: not precached: models/weapons/knife/default/t_knife.mdl
the messagebox had to be clicked before it was closed properly and was restarted by the batch :-/

Listen server crashes as soon as you attempt to throw your first knife. I got this error:

Engine Error: 77/ - weapon_basemeleethrown: UTIL_SetModel: not precached: models/weapons/knife/default/t_knife.mdl

Just tried to set up a teamplay listen server to see if that made any difference but the Action button didn't appear to do anything so I was stuck on the weapon selection page...

Thats because you didnt select a team yet ;) Which is obvious since there is no team selection menu. Run a "jointeam 0" or something in the console and it should be working ;x

So, thanks to honcho and eddi some major bugs are now fixed _/-\o_

  • Ticket #24 (View drops to ground for a split second when starting dive) closed by eddi
  • Ticket #39 (Spectators can 'impact' living players) closed by Head_Honcho
  • Ticket #62 (world muzzle flashes seem to not be drawing) closed by Head_Honcho
  • Ticket #57 (Gamerules should check timelimit pre-round) closed by Head_Honcho
  • Ticket #5 (Throwing knifes drops the player from the server) closed by Head_Honcho
